Office of Bar Admissions

The Office of Bar Admissions is the administrative division of the Supreme Court of Georgia responsible for the admission of attorneys to the practice of law in Georgia, and it serves the Board to Determine Fitness of Bar Applicants (the "Fitness Board") and the Board of Bar Examiners. The members of the Fitness Board and the Board of Bar Examiners are appointed by the Supreme Court to implement the Rules Governing Admission to the Practice of Law in Georgia, which were promulgated by the Supreme Court and are enforced by that Court. In general, the Fitness Board evaluates the character of applicants and the Board of Bar Examiners evaluates the competence of applicants.

The Office of Bar Admissions is not affiliated with the State Bar of Georgia. The State Bar is a separate entity with codes of ethics and discipline for practicing lawyers that are enforced by the Supreme Court of Georgia. If you have questions about the practice of law in Georgia (or the unauthorized practice of law), attorney discipline or bar complaints, readmission or reinstatement of attorneys to the Bar, or other questions regarding Bar membership, please contact the State Bar of Georgia here.
