Attorneys' Examination

Eligibility. Attorneys from another United States jurisdiction who do not qualify for Admission on Motion may be eligible to take the one-day Attorneys' Examination, as provided in Part D, Section 2 of the Rules Governing Admission to the Practice of Law in Georgia (“Rules”). To qualify, attorneys must (1) satisfy the same eligibility requirements as those that are applicable to candidates who must sit for the two-day bar examination, (2) have been admitted to the practice of law by exam and be in good standing in another United States jurisdiction, and (3) have never previously taken and failed a bar exam in Georgia. The deadlines to file a Fitness Application and a Bar Exam Application for the Attorneys’ Exam are the same as the deadlines for the two-day Bar Exam, but applicants who previously filed a Fitness Application associated with the two-day Bar Exam may convert to the Attorneys’ Exam as described below.

Composition and Scoring of the Attorneys’ Exam. The Attorneys’ Exam is administered on the first day of the two-day Bar Exam (which is always a Tuesday) and consists of the Multistate Performance Test (MPT) and the Georgia Essays. The Attorneys’ Exam does not include the second day of the two-day Bar Exam, during which the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) is administered. For scoring purposes, applicants are credited with the same score on the MBE as they receive on the MPT/Essays, so applicants must receive a score of at least 135 on the MPT/Essays in order to achieve a passing score of 270 on the Georgia Bar Exam. Conversion from the Two-Day Bar Exam to the Attorneys’ Exam. Applicants who have already submitted a Fitness Application to sit for the two-day Bar Exam who become eligible to sit for the Attorneys’ Exam may convert their two-day Fitness Application to the Fitness Application for the Attorney’s Exam. To convert, eligible applicants should send an email to: gabaradmissions@gasupreme.us with a current Letter of Good Standing from every jurisdiction in which the applicant is admitted to practice law. The applicant will be contacted by a staff member from the Office of Bar Admissions with information about payment. The cost to convert is the difference between the amount the applicant paid (excluding late fees) for the Fitness Application associated with the two-day Bar Exam and the $1,200 filing fee for the Fitness Application associated with the Attorneys’ Exam. The deadline to convert for the February Attorneys’ Exam is the preceding January 5th, and the deadline to convert for the July Attorneys’ Exam is the preceding June 5th.
